Blog Friends Are Real

I recently met with a blog friend, Nichole who is lovely by the way, in real life (IRL) and she said something that stuck with me (of course I'm paraphrasing, but you'll get the idea). In high school your friends were the people you went to school with.  It was by circumstance of where you were located that they became your friend.  Blogs and the Internet allow us a window into someone else's world. We are friends with them because we choose to be.  This is not to say you don't like the people you went to high school with, just that on the Internet you can find true friends.

Top 10 Reasons Why Blog Friends Are Real, in no particular order.

10. When you want some entertainment on twitter, they will tell you knock knock jokes that may not even make their 3 year old laugh, and that in itself is entertainment!

9. They send you text messages when you need encouragement to get on that eliptical.

8. They text message you while they are in labor because you've insisted that you need to know how it's going, even if you've never met them in real life.

7. They are one of the strongest people you've ever "met" and offer you powerful advice that you still carry with you today.

6.They are so so patient and design your blog for you, even when you have no idea what you want! (I paid her, of course!)

5. They invite you to have dinner with them even though prior to dinner the only true conversation you have had is via twitter.

4. Then when you get to dinner and meet their lovely family, everyone can barely shut up for more than 30 seconds to look at the menu.

3. They don't think you're crazy when you tell them that you are coming to visit them because you're grandfather died. (Yes, I met up with a blog friend on a trip for my grandfather's funeral.)

2. When they are really your sister, but since they are the one who encouraged you to start a blog you are grateful.

1. They make you smile. Because, really isn't that what friends are supposed to do?  You are a part of their real life too, you email them daily, send them a text, talk to them on the phone, share a laugh with them.  And you do these things because they.are.real.

What have your blog friends done that show you they are real?

Yes, blog friends are indeed real!

How do I know this?
Because I have one who drove an hour and a half to meet me, who is as freaked out about an upcoming conference as I am, and who makes me laugh online and in person.

Can't beat that. :)

Thank you for being my internet turned real friend!

I can't believe that I just saw this post today. And, I think that Nichole is so very right about Internet friends...you get a choice and you choose them because they are, indeed REAL friends.
